Halloween Theme Birthday Cake

A not-so-spooky Halloween theme fondant decorated cake. This cake was meant for a couple (husband and wife) whose birthday falls on the same day, the 31st of October aka Halloween. The cake was orange buttercake with blueberry pie filling.

The inspiration came from the idea of kids play dressing up for a Halloween party..:)

I would have done more for this theme like adding more spooky figurines such as bloody Dracula, RIP, spiders, ghosts, etc if this cake weren't made for hubby and I.......I wouldn't want to bare the extra cost..haha..:D

Yup, I think I should be frank here..yes, the cake is simply made for me and my hubby's birthday...haha.. Happy Birthday to US!

Barney And Friends Sugar Figurine

As much as I love baking and decorating cakes, there are times when I'm not able to cope with the demand of my daytime work and my family commitments. Time is so precious and sometimes I wish I have more than 24 hours a day and that my body doesn't need so much of sleep.. :) That would be impossible I know..LOL..Being said that, I just love what I'm doing at the moment and I feel happy that I'm able to do little things like these that could make a little child happier..:) OK enough of my ramblings..:)

I wasn't able to accept an order by a friend for a whole cake with figurines for a particular day. Hence, I was commissioned to do figurines of Barney and Friends instead. The figurines would be placed on a cake which would be done by someone else.
Ok let the pictures do the talking.. and here they are..

This is B.J

This is Baby Bop.

Baby Bop and Barney at the background..

I just love how this picture turns out..blurry figure in front and sharp focused figure at the back..and even more blurred background... Sorry I'm not familiar with those photography terms..lol.. but I do love the art of photography too..

From the Left: Baby Bop, Barney and B.J. They all come with little presents for the birthday boy..:) Actually, there's another orange colored character called Riff who is Baby Bop and B.J's cousin. Maybe next time I will try to do Riff if I ever get the chance to mould these again..ehhe:)

Happy 1st Birthday to Nicholas! Thanks Onalia for trusting me with these..:) I hope Nicholas had a great birthday bash..:)

Bride & Groom Sugar Figurine

Recently, I was commissioned by a bride-to-be to make a bride and groom sugar figurine for her wedding cake. Due to other commitments, I wasn't able to accept her request to bake her a 2 tier wedding cake on one of her wedding reception. Therefore, she requested me to do the figurine as a back-up plan..:) I was given a sample pic above to refer to with some minor modifications.

The specifications for the figurine which I gathered from the bride was:

1) Long, curly and brown colour hair for the bride.
2) Spiky and brown colour hair for the groom.
3) Yellow and white roses hand bouquet for the bride.
4) Green neck tie for the groom and his height should be taller than the bride.

As compared to the sample picture given, I gave this bride a long wavy hair, voluptuous bust, and a waistline :P .  As for the hand bouquet, it was rather difficult to attach tiny roses to it, so I settled with blossom-like flowers. As long as it represents yellow and white  flowers right...lol :)

I gave him a yellow flower for his corsage and I had a tough time doing his spiky hair ..:)

Do forgive me for the not-so-tidy hairdo coz I'm not a professional hair stylist..hehe..:P It's so fragile it keeps breaking..:)

As I'm not an expert in figure modelling, I hope this is acceptable. I've done my best but I guess there're still so much room for improvement..:)

Congratulations to the newly weds! May you two find new happiness in each other's company for the rest of your lives. I quote " Happy marriages begin when we marry the one we love, and they blossom when we love the one we married. May you two find love and happiness in each other's arms! "

Thanks so much to the bride for giving me this opportunity to do this figurine for their most memorable day. Cheers! :)

***Disclaimer-The figurines were not intended to be of a look-alike to the couple. It is mainly for decoration purposes only :)

Barney in The Wiggles' Car Cake

It was such a coincidence that I received 3 orders for a 3D car cake for the past 2 months. Even before I posted my 1st Lightning McQueen Car for Evelyn in August, I've already received an advance order from Cavy for the Wiggles car, and also the BMW car from Zima.  Looks like a car themed cake is very popular for boys/guys' birthday. I can now venture into car making only...ha!..:D

Who doesn't know The Wiggles? That's ME! Not until I got to do this..LOL.. That's what I love about doing thematic novelty cakes. I learnt something new each time I need to do a research on the specific theme and that makes life more interesting but of course more challenging. There's so many versions of The Wiggles Cake at the search engine. Cavy's idea was to have her kid's favourite Barney figurine to be seated in The Wiggles car and the 'Happy Birthday' wordings to be placed on the top front of the car.

So this is how it came about. I added more presents on the passenger seat to make it looked like this happy Barney is bringing presents especially for Jovan. On top of that, I added the plastic balloons to compliment the theme and to make it look more colourful and cheerful.

Red, yellow, purple, and blue are the main colours incorporated in The Wiggles theme. Check this out to know them better..:)

Front close-up view.

The rear view.

The Barney figurine and all other decorations were made of fondant/edible gumpaste except for the plastic balloons, windscreen and spotlights.

Thanks Cavy for your continuous support and hope you're satisfied with the cake. Happy 1st Birthday to Jovan. He's such a cute boy and soon-to-be a handsome young man. :)

BMW Convertible Car Cake

Don't we all wish to drive or own a BMW one day? I do...but at the mean time, having the chance to produce this BMW car cake is already a dream came through for me..LOL :P This is my very first BMW and my 2nd fondant 3D car cake. This project took me one whole day just on decorations. 3 hours before the delivery time I was only 80% done on the car and another 25pcs of cupcakes to decorate. Knowing that I may not finish on time, I called up the customer to ask for an extension of another half an hour. Luckily, she was OK with it. I felt bad about it for not being able to deliver on that specific time. I was really in a rush and underestimate the time needed for this cake. Nevertheless, I'm so glad that the whole thing turn into a piece.

Zima forwarded a few pics from the net for my reference. She wanted a BMW convertible car cake with two teddy bears sitting in the car. I was like OMG! Now how do I do that? My imaginations started to run wild and our discussions started over exchanging emails and YM. My main reference was from Elitecakesdesign Australia but I made my own changes to give it a ME touch. Don't ask me what model or series of BMW this is coz I have no idea...ha! :P

Two loving couple teddies went for a ride in the most comfortable car..

The details of the rims were made of an edible image. Couldn't have done the exact with just fondant.

Let's just say the model of the car is year 2010 ZOOL24 series white  BMW convertible car. :)

And the male teddy bear started to feel romantic by putting his hands on to the female teddy's shoulder.. LOL :P

Oh and those diamond spotlights are non edible. I did inform the customer to remove it before consumption.

Say Hi there teddies..:D . Forever Friends teddy bears were made out of fondant/gumpaste, hand moulded.

Besides the car cake, there were another 24 pcs of edible image cupcakes to go along. Due to privacy, I have to sensor the images and show only the remaining images which were the birthday boy's favourites and wish list. The flavour for the car cake was chocolate moist cake filled with chocolate ganache, while the cupcakes were butter with creamcheese cupcakes.

Zima smsed me to tell me that the cake was very pretty, cute and delicious and she was very satisfied with it. Thanks so much Zima. I'm more happier when you're happy.:) See you next time. :)

Chocolate With Cheese Cupcakes

Simple cupcakes as requested by a friend. These were to be flown to Tawau for his friend's surprise birthday gift. The flavour was chocolate with cream cheese filling and topped with chocolate ganache swirl frosting. The alphabets were made of strawberry flavoured white chocolate and flowers were made of edible gumpaste.

Luckily, the cupcakes reached to its destination safely.

Packed in a gift box as requested.

Garden Theme Chocolate and Cheese Cupcakes

Garden theme cupcakes requested by Lysly for her 2 elder sisters Wendy and Betsy. What a thoughtful lil' sis she is.. Sometimes I just wondered how it feels to have more sisters in the family..must be fun ya..to share cloths and stuffs.... Since I'm the only girl in the family, I wouldn't know how it feels to have sisters to fight over cloths and maybe..boyfriends.. in their childhood?..ha! *Just kidding*..:D

Let's see what lies in their garden..... dragonfly.. butterflies... ladybugs...bumble bees..

Little ducklings swimming in the pond..

That's a water pot to water the plants and fences surrounding the garden.

All decoration toppers were made of sugarpaste and royal icing. Here's wishing Wendy and Betsy a very Happy Birthday and May God Bless you. Special thanks to Lysly for your continous support. Hope the cake and you guys reach Tamparuli safely. :)

Lightning McQueen Car Cake

Eventhough I'm left with no maid to help out with the washing and cleaning up, I can't help but happily say yes to my dear friend who had in advance informed me that she will be ordering a cake from me. It was for her husband and nephew's birthday. I first jumped at the idea of a 3D car cake. A cake that needs carving and creativity in getting the right shape and curve...ha..:)  Furthermore, the car has to be decorated in fondant, which is more complex and difficult compared to just piping with buttercream. Oh well, never try never know. I was then eager to try out this 3D McQueen design after much inspired by so many pictures at flickers.. Thanks to the Internet and all the successors who has done it before.

I think he has got a sweet smile there, don't you think so? :P Oops..look at those crushed cones, he's not a careful driver there..hehe.. And don't worry, those sand were made from crushed digestive biscuits. Rise crispies and chocolate candies stone-like for decoration purposes.

Here goes the driver, Mr. Wesley one of the birthday boy.. not sure how old he is though..:)

Here's little Keith at the passenger seat. He is turning 4.

Front logo with their names embossed and the chick spotlights..

Tadaaa....Thirteen accompanying cupcakes to go with McQueen. I supplied a number '4' candle for Keith but no age mentioned for Wesley as requested. According to Eve, the main star for the party was Keith.:)

Another little blue racing car leading the race :)

Like Evelyn said, everyone was impressed and surprised with the 2 in 1 birthday cake. Viewing from the right hand side, it's Wesley's birthday cake.

Turn it around and voila..!.. it's Keith's birthday cake..... :)
Evelyn told me that her nephews and nieces' 1st reaction when they saw the cake was they shouted "McQueen!" then her nephew took out his McQueen CD and started making comparisons...haha...glad he could recognised it in the 1st place...:)

The back view of the cake.

My Hubby commented that the sport rims should be bigger. I agreed. That's because I didn't expect that the car cake would be this big as I have made the sport rims days in advance to let it dry hard, before I can imagine how the actual cake would turn out. Will take note on that the next time. By the way, the flavour of the cake and cupcakes was brown sugar vanilla butter cake. The cake weighed almost 2kg. Size 10"x5".

Thanks Eve for the order. I'm so glad we made it *wink* :)

All packed and ready to go...vrrooommm..........
