A Black And White Affair....

From the very beginning of this cake decorating hobby of mine, I have never thought I would venture into tier cakes. When Karen (my hubby's cousin) saw what I did for my bro-in-law's engagement cake last May, she wanted me to do her engagement cake too. I agreed with her request but little did I know that she wanted a 2-tier cake! :D When she informed me of her intention, I almost chicken out.. I've never done a tier cake and I couldn't bare the stress and risk involving the construction of a stacked cake. However, after days of thinking and researching, I finally made up my mind to accept the challenge. I have been planning for this cake for almost 3 months and I was glad it turns out what I have planed, the designs and all. I'd like to specially thank my baking friend Ms. F, for her valuable advice and moral support in doing this project ..thanks so much dear :)

This 2-tier cake, 10" + 8" weighed around 8kg. Cake flavour was rich marble chocolate vanilla pound cake filled with vanilla buttercream and covered with homemade fondant icing. Obviously, the colour theme was a sophisticated and funky black and white.

Decorated with black & white lace flowers, satin ribbons and sugar pearls. Top tier was decorated with Lacey hearts meant to insert a bunch of exploding hearts.

I heart those exploding hearts....:)

A modern and classic, black & white engagement theme are timeless and sophisticated. Congratulations to Rayner and Karen on their engagement. Thanks so much for entrusting me on your centerpiece and letting me be a part of your occasion.

Party with Barney and Friends

I love you..
You love me..
We're best friends like friends should be..
With a great big hug and
A kiss from me to you...
Won't you say you love me too?

I really love this theme song for Barney and friends. A famous children TV show produced in the U.S. aimed at very young children ages 1-4. This show conveys learning through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, optimistic attitude.

The title character Barney - A purple T-Rex dinosaur in stuffed animal likeness.

Baby Bop - A green Triceratop dinosaur. She wears a ribbon on her head.

B.J. - A yellow Protoceratop dinosaur. He wears a red baseball cap and a pair of red sneakers.

Party with Barney and friends commissioned by Carol for her cute little girl Ethel Cade who turns one. It was a chocolate moist cake filled with chocolate ganache, covered with milk buttercream and decorated with fondant figurines. All figurines were handmade and edible except for the number 1 candle.  The sides of the cake were piped to resemble a basket weave design.

Along with the cake, was a set of 25 cupcakes with the same theme. They were vanilla buttermilk cupcakes filled with strawberry pie filling and covered with strawberry flavoured buttercream.

All cupcake toppers were made of fondant/sugarpaste.

I like it when I am given ample time and notice for an order. This order was placed way back in May.. almost 2 months before the date of delivery. This way, I have more time in doing the planning and some research on how to execute this project. Yes, I call it a project.. heheh..

All ready for collection. Happy 1st Birthday to little angel Ethel Cade. Thanks Caroline for the order and your great feedback made my day :).

Edible Image Fondant Cake

Edible Photo Images are an amazing invention. Edible images make every occasion extra-special because of the personal aspect. Any type of photo or design can be duplicated to make delicious, amazing photo treats that will bring joy and delight to all. For example, if you are having a family reunion, place edible pictures of everyone in the family right on the cake. The cake creates wonderful memories for all to talk and laugh about.

An edible image is frosting that has been pressed ultra thin onto an edible baking sheet. Images are applied using a printer with edible inks. Frosting sheets are Kosher & FDA approved and have ZERO (0) Calories. Frosting sheets are made from Water, cornstarch, Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup Solids, Cellulose, Sorbitol, Glycerine, Sugar, Vegetable Oil, Arabic Gum, Polysorbate 80, Vanilla, Titanium Dioxide, and Citric Acid. Contains no know allergens.

It is best to have a higher resolution picture taken with a digital camera in order to get a better and clearer edible image.

This was the second order I received from Lysly. It was for her friend's mum's birthday. Lysly's request was to have a pink fondant cake with edible image of her friend's mum with her cute little grandchild. Lysly also specifically requested to have flowers and ribbons. I hope this design meets your expectation Lys..:)

The photo given to me was of a low resolution because it was taken with a handphone camera, hence the slight blurring effect when printed on the edible sheet. Nevertheless, it's not too bad after some editing done.

Cake flavour was chocolate moist filled with chocolate buttercream covered with marshmallow fondant and decorated with fondant flowers.. Cake weight 3 kg, size: 8x8x4 inches.

I'm glad to have received repeat orders from you Lysly. Thanks so much and see you again. :)

Present Cake

A birthday gift from a wife to her husband for his 32nd birthday.
Betsy picked a present box design with a fabric like ribbon and a name tag on it. Colour chosen was blue.

I meant to put this tag onto the cake but I find it too crowded on top, so I decided to place it on the side instead.

This cake weigh almost 3 kg, cake size = 8x8x4 inches. Cake flavour was a combination of a layer of chocolate moist and a layer of chocolate velvet. All decorations were made of fondant.

Thanks Betsy for the order. I hope the cake reached Keningau safely and hope to hear from you again. Thanks.
